The Slow Theory Reading Group is open to grad students at the University of Alabama with an interest in critical theory. The general idea is to read a dense piece of scholarship together, closely and slowly, without the associated deadlines and pressures of class or paper writing. I coordinate the date and time and the participants decide collectively on what to read and how discussions are organized.
This semester’s (and possibly next semester’s) readings are:
1. Lisa Lowe, The Intimacy of Four Continents (2015)
2. Zoé Samudzi and William C. Anderson, As Black As Resistance: Finding the Conditions for Liberation (2018)
3. Michel Foucault, Discipline and Punish (1975)
